Swallow Falls - This state park contains some of Maryland's most breathtaking scenery. The Youghiogheny River flows along the park's borders, passing through shaded rocky gorges and creating rippling rapids. Muddy Creek Falls is a crashing 53-foot waterfall – a spectacular sight. Tall hemlocks dominate the silent woods. The 1 1/4 mile trail through Swallow Falls guides hikers to some of the most breath-taking scenery in Western Maryland. Bring your swimsuit to take a dip in the wading pools and swim under the falls!
Deep Creek Lake State Park is very close (right across the cove!) to the inn and has great walking and hiking trails, a Discovery Center, an Aviary in the woods, and a picnic area with ice cream, drinks, snacks. The park offers two sandy crescent beaches, and is definitely the spot to swim on a hot day. Rent a kayak or paddleboard at WISP’s beachside concession!

Adventure Sports Complex International - ASCI is a man-made, Olympic standard, white water rafting and canoe/kayak slalom center located on the top of WISP mountain. Make a reservation to conquer the rapids, or just walk over from the chairlift ride and check out this unique white water course!
Pontoon Boat Tours - Leave the boat driving to one of the experienced local guides and sit back, relax and enjoy the beauty of Deep Creek Lake. These tours offer local knowledge and history about Deep Creek Lake and the surrounding area. Don't forget your camera!

Casselman River Bridge State Park - A popular area for fly fishermen, photographers, and history enthusiasts. Today the bridge stands as a picturesque relic of Maryland's early transportation history, and a tribute to those who designed and built the National Road. Have a afternoon picnic or catch some fish!
Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center - Nestled along the shores of Deep Creek Lake at Deep Creek Lake State Park, the Discovery Center is a one-of-a-kind educational venue for people of all ages. Through hands-on exhibits that showcase the natural resources of Western Maryland, families can learn about the flora, fauna, wildlife, cultural and historical heritage that have turned this former logging and coal mining region into a popular modern day vacation destination.
Mountain Lake Park - Mountain Lake Park is rich in history and character. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is a fine example of a Victorian resort that grew out of two American activities of the nineteenth century: spiritual renewal and educational / recreational assembly.
Savage River State Forest- This state forest, at over 54,000 acres, is the largest facility in the state forest system. It preserves a strategic watershed in Garrett County. It features biking trails, boat launch, cross country skiing, campsites, fishing, flat water canoeing, hiking trail, historic interest, hunting, picnic, riding trails, shelters, snowmobiling, white water canoeing.

Firefly Farms - A charming mountain cheese creamery and market. Reserve a wine and cheese tasting! You and your party will be comfortably seated at the Market Table and served a series of delectable treats to accompany your cheese and wine pairings.
Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater & Kentuck Knob Houses are a perfect day trip. Around an hour drive from the inn, these architectural marvels are a must-see forest spectacle.

Oakland, Maryland – A great small town and the Garrett County seat, the little town of Oakland lies a couple miles south of the Inn on Garrett Highway. It holds a beautifully restored 1800’s B&O railroad station, and transportation and historical museums. Your visit should include a walk around the town center to visit great book shops, antique and gift stores, and a luncheonette straight out of the past.

At the Inn, take the wooded walking trail to the dock to swim and fish in the cove - fishing poles provided. Take the Inn's canoes to explore Deep Creek Lake. Float away in our inner tubes on our sun-drenched cove of the lake. Play a set on our tennis court - equipment provided. Take a ride on the Inn's mountain bikes. Complimentary cross-country and snowshoe equipment is available as well for winter adventures. All rooms are air-conditioned, have private baths, complimentary WIFI, flat screen TV, phones, and robes, many with fireplaces, private decks or whirlpool baths.

While this is a little drive away (approximately 10 miles) it is recommended as fine dining in a turn of the century Country retreat.
Swallow Falls – The 1 1/4 mile hiking trail through an old growth forest passes by several waterfalls including Muddy Creek Falls, the highest waterfall in Maryland.
Deep Creek Lake State Park – There are four different hiking trails at the state park of varying distance and difficulty, including a nature observation trail. It is located directly across the cove from the inn and is only a 3 minute drive.
WISP Mountain – Go for a guided hike in the Fork Run Area, or just take the chairlift up and explore the top of the mountain yourself!
Herrington Manor - Herrington Manor State Park Loop is a 4.2 mile loop trail located near Oakland, Maryland and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible from April until October.
New Germany - New Germany has ten miles of multi-use trails. The trails wind their way through dense hemlock forest, colorful mixed hardwoods, rhododendron-choked stream valleys and towering pine and spruce plantation sites.
Wisp ski resort - 10 minutes down the road, has 34 downhill skiing slopes and night skiing.
The WISP Winter Mountain Park has an ice skating rink, tubing park, and mountain coaster that operates during the winter. The Nordic Center has guided snowmobile tours, snowshoe tours, and cross-country skiing.
New Germany State Park - There are miles of cross country ski and snowshoe trails all over the county, and we have complimentary cross country skis and snow shoes at the inn for guest use.
Herrington Manor State Park- Right next to swallow falls, has 10 more miles of cross country skiing trails.
Winter Sleigh Ride - Let a horse draw you through a winter wonderland.
